Derek at the 2010 Fire Safety Day. The next day he became a big brother!! |
Being a busy mom that works with 2 young children, I am always looking to maximize the actual time I have with Derek and Hayley. I try to play as much as I can, which leads to my house never being as neat as I would like and my laundry baskets typically overflowing. Rob and I share cooking meals while the other plays with the kids and Finnegan!
I think because of the constant rush our little family traditions mean so much to me. Even little things that we do together, just the four of us, are the best! Which is why I have taken it upon myself to create some traditions for my family, if I don’t then who would?!?
Some of my favorite traditions are;
~Always taking the day off work and daycare for the kids birthdays and going somewhere special
~Getting our Christmas tree in the parking lot by our house
~Renting a house in Ocean City for a week just the 4 of us for much needed alone and relaxation time
~Going to the fire safety fair in town (Derek is a fireman in training!)

I have also been pinning lots of things to make with and for the kids for the holidays which could be new traditions for us!! http://pinterest.com/sunbeam377/
Sarah, you're really taken this awesome mom thing to the next level.
Love the photo ornament idea.
We found a Hot Wheels car every year for Alex, a Barbie every year for Sophia, and when they were old enough, asked them to pick one. Alex grabbed something Star Wars and Sof some puppy. To this day, we've added a character/theme for each kid, & the tree is an ensemble of Toy Story/Harry Potter/Goofy playing soccer/Steelers mouse/mom bear making cookies, but it works.
The second thing is cooking, (experimenting) w the kids. To this day, my daughter wants to open a bakery and lil Nico wants to own his Smoothie Store. Memories they'll remember forever. Merry Christmas.
Jay, I love that idea!!! We are totally letting Derek pick something out this year (I bet it's either Buzz or Batman….or both, I always say yes when he asks for things (I call it working moms guilt!)
As for the cooking we always cook together. Derek mixing the matzo ball mix, stirs cookie dough, sprinkles cheese on pizza and sprinkles on cupcakes!!! I love it, anything I can do to get him involved and interested in spending time with me, I am all for it!!!
i get a certain type of ornament from my grandparents every year (yes, still do), so it's kind of neat to see them all. but i think it'd be great to start some sort of cooking project, done together (they choose the recipe and/or get to help) once a week/month/holiday 🙂
Hi, Sarah! Ever since I was little, we always decorated gingerbread men on Christmas Eve. Now that I host Christmas Day dinner for my husband's family, we also decorate them on Christmas Day, too.
Love it!!!!
