Last week Derek turned 4. How on earth did my baby boy turn 4 already? For his first birthday we took Derek to Dutch Wonderland. It was a great day. Derek waddled all over the park. I remember taking him on the giant slide. I am afraid of heights so I was pretty scared and then halfway down the slide I heard my boy laughing!! Oh it was the sound of pure joy that all my fears left and I longed to hear that over and over. This visit was when I realized how lucky I was to be able to experience all these adventures with my child, even if I was a bit scared!!
In honor of Derek turning 4; I contacted Dutch Wonderland and we were invited back with Derek and Hayley (20 months). What a difference a few years make, Derek went on almost every single ride this visit!
As soon as we got to the park we put on our swimsuits, it was 95 degrees even at 3pm. By the way, 3pm is an awesome time to go to the park, it’s open till 8pm and a lot of park visitors get there early are starting to head out around then. We started out in Duke’s Lagoon. Derek and Hayley LOVED the spray park. They went on the slides and stepped on the water that shoots out of the grounds for over 1 1/2 hours (no pictures because due to extreme heat Rob and I were in the water too!!) Duke’s Lagoon was great for both kids, they had a blast AND it’s so clean!
When we headed over to the dry rides. Derek loved the simulators. He then went on Sky Fighter, Hayley sat down and cried so she came off and waved and cheered on Derek.
The kids were so happy, the park was so clean (even the bathrooms) and we even felt like the food and toy store were reasonably priced!
We had a Dutch Wonderful Day!

We love Dutch Wonderland! My kids favorite ride is the roller coaster. I loved all the rides when I was a kid.
My family and I are going to Dutch Wonderland on 7/16. I can’t wait. My favorite ride was always the swings.
The swings always petrified me!! I am more of a merry go round kind of girl!!
LOL…everytime I would ride the swings I would get off and feel sick. Even though that happened I would still ride them everytime. I guess I’m a glutton for punishment. Maybe that’s why my son is like you…he like the Merry go round, nothing fast for my baby… 🙂

We are big Disney World fans – our favorite rides are all there – Toy Story Mania, Pirates of the Carribean, Peter Pan, anything that gives you a full sensory experience. 🙂

I love the ferris wheel. Seeing things from a birds eye view is cool…and theres always a nice breeze at the top!

I actually don’t really like rides but my kids do and they love Dutch Wonderland!

I haven’t been to Dutch Wonderland since i was 10 and now im 30 with a 4 1/2 year who has never been there. Would love to take her there! 🙂 Bumper rides are my favorite!

Our family visits Dutch Wonderland every summer for the past four years since our second child was born!! Itsour own family tradition and the kids absolutely LOVE IT!!

Thanks, it’s so true. Even just walking up the stairs I was petrified because they are open back stairs. At first I thought my son was crying and when I realized it was laughter and happiness it was just amazing!!
