In the midst of a busy few weeks I am thrilled to take 2 days off to enjoy my family and enjoy the country. Amish Country to be exact!! I am ready to go check out the awesomeness that is the Amish Countryside.
During our weekend away we will be staying at the Bird-in-Hand Family Inn.
- Petting zoo
- Complimentary Amish Farmland Tour
- Fitness room
- Game room
- Indoor pools/hot tub
- Outdoor pools
- Picnic pavilion
- Playground
- Pond & walking trail
- Tennis & basketball courts
How awesome, a hotel with a petting zoo AND and indoor and outdoor pool, my kids are going to be so excited!! I even ordered them new swimsuits!
During our visit we will be exploring The Amish Village! I love any opportunity for Derek and Hayley to run free on green grass and enjoy nature!
The Amish Village includes:
- The Amish house & barnyard
- Windmill & water wheel
- Amish schoolhouse
- Blacksmith shop
- Outdoor picnic grounds
- Smokehouse Market
- Amish Village Store
I made the mistake of telling Hayley and Derek two weeks ago that we were going to the Choo Choo Barn and EVERY MORNING “Is today the Choo Choo Barn” thank goodness on Saturday I can finally say “YES!!!” I just know both kids will love checking out all the amazing scenes created at the Choo Choo Barn.
A few Choo Choo Barn Highlights include:
- Amish barn-raising
- Three-ring circus and parade
- Display transformation into nighttime (every 10 minutes)
- Dutch Wonderland, enhanced with new lighting this year
- A house fire and the fire crew that puts it out
- Watch a sneak peak
Our final destination on our weekend in Lancaster is the Strasburg railroad.
Highlights of the Strasburg Railroad:
- Coach, First-Class, Open Air or the Dining Car
- America’s oldest short line railroad
- historic wooden passenger cars
- take a behind-the-scenes tour of to see steam engines being built, restored and refurbished
I have a feeling Hayley and Derek will fit right in. They get to take their first big train ride, how exciting!!!
Do you have a favorite spot in Lancaster, PA??? Let me know in the comments below so I am sure to check it it!
Disclosure: My family and I were invited to Lancaster as part of the Girls’ Lunch Out Blogger Weekend. However, all the opinions are my own and we genuinely love Lancaster, PA!!!
This sounds like such a fun weekend! I’m so jealous 🙂 Can’t wait to hear how it goes!
Those photos of them all dressed up are so cute!
Thanks Jessica!! They are bringing their conductor gear for the trip AND their light sabers!
so fun!! CHOOO CHOOOO CHOOO
So the train is my favorite with the kids and around the coner from the train 1 mile down the road is a small Amish farms that raises miniature horses which are very friendly. They allow people (and Buses) to stop and see the horses in homes that you will buy a woopie pie. I highly recommend it after you finish with the train on Saturday. Exit Train parking lot turn Left go down to 1st road and turn left you will see the farm on right.

Oh we have been wanting to check out Lancaster as a family! Have a great weekend! Can’t wait to hear all about it!
So much fun! We love the apple fest in fall, but you HAVE to check out Shady Maple Smorgasboard. It’s an experience, and the food is great.
I don’t have a favorite spot in Amish country, but I do love to visit there. It is always a wonderful time for our family.
I haven’t been to Lancaster in ages! I’ll visit then tell you my favorite spot. Hint, it will be food and yarn related.
I haven’t been in forever either! Have a great weekend!
I absolutely can’t wait to hear all about the trip! It sounds amazing and I’m excited to eventually go out there (this summer, probably) so I hope you share all about the different activities. Ben is going to be SO mad at me once he hears about the choo choos….
I love a weekend in Lancaster and sounds like a great place to stay!
My favorite spot in Lancaster is… my house! LOL 😉 I am from Lancaster, so we don’t really do any of the above attractions. Not too far away Bird-In-Hand is a farm that has camels. They aren’t always, but they have at least a handful of them. 🙂 I am a fan of your on facebook – I posted a picture about two weeks ago when I drove past and they were down by the road.
