While my family and I were in Lancaster, PA we stayed at the Bird-in-Hand Family Inn. Just across from the Amish Village, the Bird-in-Hand Family Inn was perfect for our families needs (and then some!) When I checked in the ladies at the reception desk were lovely. They welcomed me, told me about all the family-friendly facilities the Inn had and they even gave me a nice big container of food for the petting zoo. YES, you read right, they have a petting zoo on their property! Once I mentioned that to Hayley and Derek it was clear we needed to head directly to the petting zoo, no stoping at the room yet.
The kids loved feeding the animals!! They fed chickens, goats and a Llama. Since we are huge fans of the Llama Llama books they both were out of control excited over seeing a Llama!
Finally we convinced Hayley and Derek that the animals had all eaten enough and we went to check out our room. It was a perfect size, very clean with two beds and what more could you ask for! The Smuckers had left a lovely letter welcoming us and it all just felt like a perfect place to stay!
Next up…..The playground…no matter where we are Hayley and Derek must check out the playground so we spent a good amount of time there and off to the Smorgasbord for dinner. Have you ever had Broasted Chicken?? GO HAVE IT!!! Also have the fried apples….yummmm!
When dinner was over we went off to play mini-golf. YES! They have a mini-golf course on their property too!! It was so much fun, the kids had a blast!!
After all that fun both Hayley and Derek were exhausted and we didn’t make it to the beautiful indoor pool….NEXT TIME and there will be a next time!!!
That night we all went to bed right away. I think it was spending so much time out in the fresh country air that exhausted us. We slept soundly and comfortably.

So, the last time I was in Lancaster was with my Girl Scout Troop as a 9 year old! I loved it! THis summer my best friend and I are taking our combined 5 kiddos for a fabulous Lancaster weekend! Such great tips–can’t wait to check it all out with our little tourists!
Love mini golf, a petting zoo and all that fab stuff on site! I have three kids–perfect for all three!
Indoor Pool! WHOOOP!!!
OMG My daughter would LOVE this place! We have to check it out!
I love everything about Lancaster! : )
This place is awesome. Thanks for the review!
I love Lancaster! We always stay in my in-laws RV when we go, but I’d love to just go with my little family instead of the huge extended family. This looks like a nice option. 🙂 And uhm, LLAMAS!
What a wonderful family vacation. The inn looks adorable and love seeing the pics of the kiddies. Will need to check out Lancaster for sure.
