Did you know that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month?
Everyday 46 children are diagnosed with childhood cancer–and everyday a family begins the fight of their life. Childhood cancer remains the leading cause of death by disease for children under age 15.
Lily Adkins, the daughter of my dear friend Trish, was diagnosed with a brain tumor called ependymoma when she was 14 months old. Lily endured five brain surgeries and a month-long hospital stay at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Brain surgery left Lily unable to sit, crawl or walk.
But now, Lily who is 7, is cancer-free. Lily can now walk and she can dance and jump and rock it on the soccer field. She even just finished lacrosse camp!!
Every year Lily and her family host an annual Lemonade Stand to support Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. They have raised over $10,000.00 at the last two stands that I attended. Amazing what one little girl and a dedicated family can do!

Lily is a survivor, but unfortunately not every child is as lucky.
This September during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, local bloggers, friends and family will walk and run 1,000 miles and aim to raise $10,000 to help the fight against childhood cancer. Joining Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation’s Million Mile Run (or walk!!)
Research is consistently underfunded–but with your support, we can make a difference! We would do anything for our children–even walk a million miles to save their life.
Lily can run. She will be running along with our team as we work to reach our goal of 1,000 miles and $10,000 for a cure!
Do you walk or run?? Well then you can help walk a million miles by registering for our team (or starting your own) and logging your miles for the month either manually or using Map My Run App or FitBit for walking.
Join our team and help us raise the profile of childhood cancer while also raising funds to find a cure!

From Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation about the event…
How Will This Work? (The Million Mile Run Math)
10,000 teams (or individuals) x 100 miles = 1 million miles
We’re recruiting 10,000 runners or walkers (or teams) who will run 100 miles each (or, for teams, collectively) throughout the month of September.
Pledges/mile x 1 million miles = Millions of dollars for kids with cancer There is no fee to sign up, but we ask each individual or team to try to obtain pledges per mile or donations to support their team. Just think, if we could collectively raise $10/per mile, we would raise $10 million for pediatric cancer research in just one month! Click on the downloads section to obtain a copy of our pledge form or use your fundraising page to collect online donations.
Ok I have to go for a walk now….hope you will too!
