I took the family to see The LEGO Movie last weekend for a special sneak peak. For two weeks leading up to the movie my son Derek would ask multiple times a day, “Is today the day we see The LEGO Movie?” When I say multiple times I really mean 500 thousand times a day! Derek is 5, he loves legos and collects mini figures. He can always be found with a mini figure body, parts, hat or random piece in his hands and pockets. Derek had been so excited he even planned out which exact minifigure he would bring to the movie (BATMAN) and which he would let his sister Hayley bring (green guy).
When we got to The LEGO Movie we found out it was 3D and were given glasses with a cool LEGO Movie character sticker on it!
From the moment the movie started both Derek and Hayley were fully engaged. I was nervous about Hayley sitting through the movie but she had no issues. Our only issues was trying to keep the from screaming out loud every time they spotted a character they knew! OMG forget it when BATMAN came on-screen it was about 5 minutes of “but Mommy do you see Batman”
I loved the story behind The LEGO Movie. I felt it promoted individuality. To me the movie said it’s ok to not always follow the instructions to get done what you need to. That you can have your own flare and try different things that society might not always agree with, yet come out on top and be ok. I felt it showed teamwork and communication among the characters and above all it showed Emmet, the movies hero, as a kind and good person that found strength within himself that he didn’t think he had and was able to help save the world.
We LOVED The LEGO Movie. The theme song “Everything is AWESOME” is still stuck in my head a week later! I highly recommend it and we plan on seeing it again soon!!
The LEGO Movie website is super fun too!! I was able to create my own person minifigure version of myself (below) and you can too by going here http://appcloud.warnerbros.com/lego/sigfigtrailermaker/
Disclosure: I was provided tickets to a sneak peak but all the opinions are my own
What’s in your Lego cup?
