Yesterday I was trying for the 100,000,000th time to clean out our playroom. We have an entire room in our house devoted to toys and playing. It’s a little child’s dream room. Everything from costumes, to a kitchen, to an unlimited amount of action figures and barbies. You name it, we have it!
Now how do I make sure these children of mine are not massively spoiled?? By making them give back AND teaching them about the reason WHY we are giving and doing things! I decided today to do a post with ideas on how you can teach your children to give back!
WAYS TO TEACH CHILDREN TO GIVE BACK
Donate to food bank
Pick a charity to save change for
Hold an Alex’s Lemonade Stand and explain to your children why you are doing it
Use the Charity Miles app, let them pick a charity and go for a walk a day
When they get new toys ask them to donate some older toys
Create holiday cards through the Holiday Mail for Heroes Program
Grow and then cut their hair for the Locks for Love Program
Make a No Sew Fleece Blanket and Donate it to Project Linus
Make a pillowcase and donate it to ConKerr Cancer
Donate used towels, sheets and blankets to your local Animal Rescue
Visit a Seniors Center
Help an elderly neighbor by shoveling their snow or maintaining their garden
Special thank you to my friend Trish at http://www.triciaadkins.com for helping me come up with some ideas!
How do you and your children give back together???
Love this list! We just donated cans for a food drive and I let the kids choose the food we would donate. It was so interesting that they each choose one item with protein in it plus one vegetable, so that they each felt like the were donating a meal. They really liked the feeling of helping!
Great ideas! Keep forgetting to add Charity Miles app to my phone– will do it right now!
This is an awesome list and SO important to raise philanthropic
kids! I completely believe in modeling behavior. So around the holidays
we pick angel tree children at church and fostered a child for a local organization
Bianca’s Kids. I made my daughter go shopping to get the gifts and she helped
deliver them to the organization. (She was really cute doing it too!)
Love these ideas! I agree this kind of work helps shape little ones into good people.
