What you put out into the world sometimes is exactly what you will get back. If you complain, you will get complaints. If you share joy, you will get joyous responses. Sometimes life is tough and other times it just isn’t. Since the world is so connected now thanks to sites like Facebook and Twitter it’s sometimes difficult to not complain on these sites or vent. However….like I said, if you complain you will get complaints.
While I like to vent and complain about things too, I try very hard not to and especially try hard not to on social media sites. I love Facebook to stay connected to family and old friends, see their children grow and accomplish things and to share the joys and accomplishments of my own family and children.
I wanted to make a list of tips I use to try and stay positive. This is a constant work in progress for me but it helps me refocus from negative to positive which brings me more joy!
TIPS TO STAYING POSITIVE
1- Don’t jump on every bandwagon: Though a cause or injustice may sound immediate or fierce I try and think if it’s my cause and my injustice. If it is then I try and find the call to action and provide ways that people can help. If it isn’t my cause or injustice I try to move on.
2- Try to not take everything personal: Not everyone is perfect, I am not even close to perfect but sometimes even the best people act like fools. Sometimes good and nice people are mean or nasty. We don’t know what they are going through, what their inner turmoil is caused by so sometimes we just need to back off people and move on
3-Try and find the good in situations: In many situations there is a way to find something, even something tiny, that is good or to be grateful for.
4- Get a change of scenery: I find when I am stressed or in a bad mood that a change of scenery really helps me refocus. Sometimes just taking my dog out in the backyard and playing fetch for 5 minutes will reset my whole mood!
5-Call a friend: When I am in a bad mood I try and call a friend, sometimes I vent and other times I don’t even mention what is bothering me. Then we can just have some chit chat and help me refocus my mood without focusing on what is bringing me down
6- Remember what you have: For me, it’s my children, my husband, my parents, dog, sister, family, my house. For you, it might be something different, which is great too, but try to focus on the good!
7- SMILE: If you act it, you will become it! Smile, take deep breaths and work hard at being HAPPY!! If you try, eventually you will be happy and positive!
I think these are great tips – especially about not jumping on every bandwagon! Choose the issues close to your heart and be authentic!
Thanks Heather!! I totally agree about not jumping on every bandwagon and following your heart!!
Great advice, thank you. Really appreciate number 2, we never know what others are going through “behind the scenes”, and I try to remember that.
I need to take some of this to heart. I’ve been so down in the dumps lately. Good advice!
I love this post! Lately I have been blah and stressed. The beach is Happy Place and I go there even in the winter sometimes for a change of scenery. The quotes are great reminders as well!
I think we all go through ups and downs. It’s hard to keep perspective but good to try!!!
