As soon as Halloween ended it seems Christmas began. It went from witches and pumpkins to Santa and his elves. The other night I was in the mall with my family when Derek, my 6 year old, yelled loudly “STOP SKIPPING THANKSGIVING!” I was so proud of my boy because I work so hard at teaching him to be thankful and grateful but you never know if anything is actually sinking in. Since that night Derek and Hayley both have a new motto
“STOP SKIPPING THANKSGIVING”
I realized today that I need to capitalize on their new found interest in Thanksgiving and let them know how it is a time for giving thanks for what we have. I found out about a campaign called #TanksofThanks that Teddy Tanks has created for Thanksgiving. They are encouraging children to fill their Teddy Tanks with notes saying what they are thankful for this year. I decided since Derek is very excited about earning to read and write, it would be fun for him to write his own thankful notes. For Hayley, my budding artist, I told her she could draw pictures of what she is grateful for!
Both Kids made videos of what they are grateful for
Telebrands, the makers of Teddy Tanks, will be donating to the Food Bank of South Jersey (you can tag them on twitter @foodbankSJ). If #TanksofThanks get up to 100 tweets (retweets included), Telebrands will be able to feed nearly 90 families in their local NJ community (approximately 1,750 meals!) If you are on twitter please share your #TanksofThanks photos!!
Ask your kids tonight what they are thankful for, I bet their answers warm your heart!!!
