I have been working on my gift guides and it made me think of all the Cool Retro Toys from my childhood that I wish my kids had!! So many toys have evolved and my kids play My Little Pony, like I did, and Star Wars, like my husband did. Here are my picks for toys I wish were still around! Or that just make me laugh when I think of them.
Top Retro Toys Every Kid Should Own
My Buddy– I didn’t have My Buddy but he is cute in a non-chucky sort of way
ET Finger– OH…well…hmmm I didn’t realize back then
Mr Professor– Ok I don’t even know if I realized this was a calculator but I LOVED my Mr. Professor!!
Teddy Ruxpin– Teddy Ruxpin, the creepiest, weirdest talking bear ever
Fashion Plates– Oh how I loved Fashion Plates!
Fisher Price Classics Record Player– The best part is that in my eyes cds replaced records but in reality I don’t think my kids know what either of them are!
Pillow People– I had this exact one!! I loved her….or was she my sisters??
Dear Diary- It’s the iPad of my youth!
Ring Toss– it’s the Wii of my gene
Rainbow Brite– I loved my Rainbow Brite. I thought she was so beautiful!! Reminds me of Punky Brewster too!
Lite Bright– Fun times!! I never made anything that looked even close to that clown
Speak and Spell– I think my kids would like this one!
Monchichi- I can’t see a Monchichi without the Monchichi song popping into my head. This giant Monchichi was my sisters and she passed it on to my own girl!!

This is brilliant! I was just thinking about all the outdoor toys from my childhood to get for the kids. I also heard that Rainbow Brite is coming back to TV! So back to your list.. I had all of these (not the ET thing tho haha) and loved them. We’ve gotten Fashion Plates for my daughter before and I KNOW they would love the speak and spell. Thanks for the walk down memory lane! This rocks!
The ET finger, oh my I wonder how well they sold.
I had all of those 🙂 !
I LOVED fashion plates too! I still know the My Buddy song (and Kid Sister) from the commercials! “Wherever I go, you go!”
Oh, my dd7 would love the Fashion Plates. She loves drawing (she’s taking after me!)
No to the My Buddy. No. But yes to all the others!
I wish my mother hadn’t tossed my original lite brite. I sucked at creating anything once those paper templates were gone.
