When the kids were born I started a tradition of taking off work and making a big deal of the way we would spend each others birthdays! Depending on whose special day it is we usually plan a big outing around it. We have been known to head to the beach, an amusement park, movies, dinners, and much more. When it comes to the kids birthdays it’s extra nice because this is our little way of enjoying their celebration on our own before we have a big party. And…boy do we love to host big parties for their birthdays!! We are totally into having big, fun, awesome celebrations for the kids to enjoy their birthday with friends and celebrate life!!
Since we became members at Life Time Athletic this year it seemed like the perfect fit for a location to host our son Derek’s 8th Birthday Party. Both Derek and Hayley (our 5 yr old) are obsessed with the basketball courts at Life Time. The idea of Derek and all his buddies around and being able to play a pick up game on the beautiful Ultimate Hoops courts was super exciting. Pair that with an hour of swim, pizza and it’s the perfect recipe for an 8 year old birthday party.
Derek’s party started out at the beautiful Life Time Athletic outdoor pool but we knew it wouldn’t last long since the weather was quickly turning and a storm seemed to be heading our way. Before the whistle blew for all the kids to get out of the pools most guest had a chance to swim a bit and get at least one run down the awesome waterslide. The disappointment of having to go inside quickly faded once all the kids realized that there was a beautiful zero entry indoor pool that they could spend the rest of their designated swim time in.
After swim the kids were all escorted to the family lockers rooms to change before dinner. The convenience of the family locker rooms is huge. Moms didn’t have to worry about their sons going into a men’s locker room unsupervised or ask one father to watch 4 boys. Kids were able to dry off, get changed quickly and head over to the party room for drinks, snacks and pizza. Hayley and Derek were super excited to change into their basketball outfits! Derek got awesome new Jordan Retro 6’s that he was saving to wear for the party and Hayley got some supercool Converse hightops from Kids Foot Locker. They were also outfitted in some serious sportswear that made my husband and I jealous!
In the Life Time party room we decided to decorate with a basketball theme with a lot of help from Party City. The table was transformed into a basketball court. All the kids wore bracelets that said Hoops Strong and really got into the basketball theme. The girls that helped out with the party really did an awesome job helping us decorate to heighten the excitement.
For party favors I went with the basketball theme and made all the kids monogrammed basketball water bottles. I used Cool gear Trampoline Water Bottles with vinyl from Pro World then created two designs based on how many letters were in each child’s name. It was so cute to see all the kids filling their bottles up right away and using them!
The LifeCafe supplied the boys with pizza, water, and Honest Kids juice pouches. One little boy even told me that I made “the best pizza” he ever ate. All the parents were asking where I ordered pizza from. I told everyone it was yet another reason to join Life Time Athletic because the Cafe food is amazing. We got the BBQ Chicken pizza for all the parents, because it our favorite, it did not disappoint!!
After pizza the kids started getting antsy because they all knew they were going to play basketball and couldn’t sit still anymore. The girls running our party split the boys into two teams and away they went.
When all was said and done the kids were all sweaty, exhausted and still didn’t want to leave. It was a fantastic party and we will totally host another there. I highly recommend it!!
