This past weekend Rob and I took the kids to Woodloch Resort! This was our third visit to the Hawley, PA family resort and the third time we immediately wanted to plan our next visit. Since we have already been to Woodloch and we had a good feel for the grounds we new where we wanted to focus our time, tubing and go-karts are the kids favorite spots. The week before our visit I received an email about highlighting a few activities to expect. I was beyond excited when I saw they would be having horse races for our visit since the kids have taken a huge liking to it and are constantly repeating Scooter, the horse race announcer, yelling “6 and a double 5” “5 is still alive” trust me, if you go to the horse races…you will get it and you will repeat it too!!
Although I really don’t think there is anything at Woodloch that isn’t super fun, I wanted to share a few of our absolute favorite and “must dos” based on what my 6 and 8 year old enjoyed most!
Participate in a Family Competition:
The kids and I weren’t so good at the outdoor bowling competition but we still had fun cheering on other families and hoping they would do worse than we did (we came in last so that didn’t happen!!) When my husband and I teamed up in the washer toss I knew that he would forever blame me for our loss but we did make it to them semi-finals only have 2 pre-teens beat us. However, we were not complete losers, the kids did score some gold medals at the Egg Hunt during our second visit so that counts. Both kids wore their medals to every meal and activity afterwards (as does everyone else!)
Gingerbread, Cupcake or Cake Wars:
During our first visit we joined in the Gingerbread Wars (think Cake Wars on tv for families) and the kids loved it to much that they have been trying to convince us to bring my sister with us to Woodloch because she is an amazing artist and they think she will guarantee us a victory. This past visit we participated in Cupcake Wars and the theme was Spring. We paired up with another family and all the kids had great ideas! Derek picked baseball so we made a baseball stadium. Hayley helped “shop” for items we needed like green icing and mini marshmallows which we paid for with the tickets we were given when the game started.
Eat the Crumb Cake:
Forget your diet, you MUST eat the crumb cake at breakfast. You will thank me later for this advice!! Be sure to ask for an order sheet to order more crumb cake to bring home to your dog sitter, in-laws, co-workers or just to keep it all for yourself. We also got a crumb cake scented candle and it is AMAZING!!!
Take a Family Photo By The Lake:
Woodloch Resort is a place that your family will remember forever. Be sure to round them up and take at least one photo by the lake (or 50 so you end up with 1 good one). This visit I even thought to bring the tripod and remote clicker so I could get a photos (or 50) of all 4 of us.
Go Karts:
Walk up there!!! Do not skip the go karts! This visit Hayley could finally drive her own go kart and she was so excited to get to drive laps with her brother. Derek could drive that track for an hour if we let him, and we did, and he did!
Go See A Show:
Since there is so much to do at Woodloch by the time the evening rolls around you will be tired. Push yourself, bring the kids and see the show!! During our last visit we went to a juggling show. The kids got a second wind, they were amazed by it and cheered like crazy. They still talk about “the juggling guy” as they try to juggle the balls we bought them after the show. This visit we saw a clown that performed a magic show and almost every kid in the audience had a turn at being called up on stage!! After that we went to a the family show “The Magic of the Musicals” where songs from Broadway and more were performed on stage. The kids were in awe of the show!
Go to the Horse Races:
I bet you are wondering what are theses horse races that I speak of??? Well, a night at the horse races includes 6 wooden horses numbered 1-6 that race against each other to a finish line. Scooter, the MC, picks 3 numbers at a time(from 1 -6) from a bingo type machine and those numbers advance in the race. The place is always packed and everyone is in a good mood. Prior to the race everyone places their bets on their favored horse. Hayley and Derek scream for their horses so loud they end up losing their voices. Trust me, it’s one of the most exciting nights!!!!!!!
Go Snow Tubing:
The kids LOVE IT!!! They have manmade snow on the hill just behind the dining room. The view of the hill on the lake is so cool. I might be underestimating when I say my kids did about 578 runs on the tubing slope both days combined!
Be sure to watch Derek the Tour Guide take you through our room at Woodloch
Never to be outdone by her brother, Hayley takes you on an aerial tour of the pool area
If you are looking for family fun in driving distance of the New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia and Connecticut area, Woodloch is your place!!!
