My son Derek is 8 and in 2nd grade. Derek is absolutely obsessed with every single sports team and player. While he loves to play sports and has cheered for local teams for a few years, this year Derek has a true passion to learn the ins and outs of every sport, every team and every player. He knows nicknames, history, player and team records. It’s amazing how much information he takes in and can tell us about his favorite players and teams.
Last year at the school book fair Derek bought himself a book about Quarterbacks and so began the morning sports reading ritual. QuarterBack Superstars for under $4 has been read and reread for weeks and months. Luckily Santa caught wind of this minor obsession of Dereks and anything that promotes reading is a huge bonus so he (Santa) took the liberty to bring Derek a few more of these Scholastic Books for Christmas.

She quit last season to pursue a career in dance and then declared that she “made a huge mistake” and soccer is what she is “made to play” so I just ordered her this Winners Never Quit book by Mia Hamm so she can learn about perseverance and pushing onward even when things don’t go her way!

I volunteer at our school’s Book Fair and these Superstars books and sports books ALWAYS do well – it’s so cute to see what the kids like.
That’s awesome, Derek was so proud when he came home with the Quarterbacks book!!! He also bought a Barbie book for his sister because that’s how we roll!
Thank you for the heads up… I definitely want to purchase some of these books for Shayne and Brendan 🙂
You might also show him “The Family Huddle.” Since we live in Indy, my nephew (who is a third grader) is obsessed with Peyton Manning and his extended family! This one is written by Archie, Eli and Peyton Manning. It is sweet! http://www.barnesandnoble.com/p/family-huddle-peyton-manning/1016286018/2675390989327?st=PLA&sid=BNB_DRS_Marketplace+Shopping+Books_00000000&2sid=Google_&sourceId=PLGoP4094&k_clickid=3×4094
