By the time mid-May comes around I hit a brick wall when it comes to reminding my son to do his homework, pushing him to do his reading and following up on any of the notes that come home from school. I have my eye on the prize of summer and nothing else seems to matter at that point. Once school ends it’s all about decompressing, letting the kids be kids and all about having fun with their friends. Then comes July 4th and I start to panic because I haven’t asked anyone to read anything and though my youngest and I will pick up books together often my son would rather pick up the Playstation remote.
Any of this sound familiar? Please tell me I am not the only mother that sometimes fudges the reading log? Am I the only one that thinks reading baseball card stats counts as reading??
In an effort to gather up suggestions for books I asked one of my teacher friends for suggestions. Turns out her students come up with a list of their favorite books for summer reading suggestions. We seem to be stuck a bit with a sports books obsession but one other series, not listed below, that my son loved was Ranger in Time (about dogs!)

My girls and I love Because of Winn-Dixie and Number The Stars. Harper and I liked Hatchet, too! Some great reads here for kids and parents!
This is great! I actually just shared with one of my friends who was looking for options for her reading resistant son (sound familiar? haha)
I can’t wait until my kids can read harry potter. My oldest loves the movies!
